as the saying goes, ‘have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful’. as co-owner and designer of christchurch-based furniture and homewares brand corcovado, larissa hamilton masters this art in both her work and her wardrobe.
as a working mum, larissa values pieces that can are versatile and comfortable - able to keep up with her busy lifestyle while allowing her to make the right impression with the customers and collaborators she deals with on a daily basis.

your store corcovado is beautiful! how did you get started?
together with my husband, and business partner, andrew, we founded corcovado in 2015 after living overseas for many years, and working in corporate roles for large multi-natonals. the time felt right to return to our home town of christchurch and use the opportunity to change direction in our life and our work. a big incentive behind creating our brand was the desire to contribute to the rebirth of christchurch post-earthquakes.
a typical day for me involves…
everything you’d expect a business owner to do! i am largely responsible for the “front end” of our business so that means a wide range of design, sales and marketing activities. a typical day will see me work on advertising, marketing, sales pipeline and our website in the morning, follow up emails that have come in overnight, welcome customers into our chch showroom, work with interior designers around the country with ongoing projects, assist customers outside chch with enquiries and generally focus on providing the best customer experience we can. i carve out some time each day to focus on design and new product development.

how would you describe your personal style?
relaxed luxe. what i wear at corcovado reflects on our brand as well so i need to look smart and well groomed but i always want to be approachable. like most women i am busy juggling both my family and my business so i need to feel good about what i wear but don’t want to have to be too precious. clothes need to move with me and i need to feel comfortable and confident in them at the same time.
how do you like to dress for 9-5?
i tend to cover up more during autumn and winter so black pants with black boots or loafers - and almost always moochi. i love moochi’s soft floaty tops like the cross tee and saviour tunic and will often layer up with a colour combination of black, white and blush. hoop earrings complete the look on most days.
what are some of your favourite spots to visit around christchurch?
for morning coffee it has to be laneway espresso in durham street north, but if i am feeling virtuous then you can’t go past the super green smoothie at cocoa black in merivale. loving the new development in and around high street - including the newly opened madam woo for dinner. for relaxation and time out it has to be sumner - this is where we live and enjoy family life together. sumner has everything from a local cinema, surfing beaches, cute homewares stores like the ivy and incredible walking tracks that cross-cross the sumner/ scarborough hills.
my favourite moochi piece is…
i can’t wait for winter to wear…
my newly purchased tulip sweat. dressy enough for work, casual enough for the weekend.
i’m currently working on…
a new rug range. the most searched term on our website is “rug” so this tells me there is a demand that we need to fill. like moochi our new rug range will focus on neutrals with some unexpected detailing - luxe, attainable but desirable as well. stay tuned.
